What is Tri-M?
The Tri-M Music Honor Society is an international music honor society for secondary school students that motivates and recognizes musical achievement, academic achievement, and community service. Founded in 1952 by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the Tri-M Music Honor Society has provided years of service through music by chartering more than 1800 chapters with over 75,000 members worldwide.
Warren Central High School started a new chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society in the fall of 2017 with 47 members. Since then, 102 seniors have graduated wearing Tri-M honor cords. The selection of students for membership is based strictly on merit. Ability and scholarship in both music and academic subjects, cooperation with teachers and fellow students, leadership, and service are basic requirements. To qualify, students must be in grades 10-12, enrolled in an upper-level music performance class, have a minimum 3.0 GPA and a clean discipline and attendance record, and demonstrate qualities of leadership and service. Warren Central's chapter of Tri-M inducts new members once per school year, in September.
Why Tri-M?
Perform. Tri-M is designed to recognize outstanding musicians in our school. In addition to band, choir, and orchestra concerts, Tri-M members will have the opportunity to perform as soloists or in small groups in community events and a spring honors recital.
Lead. Tri-M is a student-run organization that recognizes the importance of music education in shaping the leaders of tomorrow. Participation will enable you to learn accountability, leadership, responsibility, and other character-building social skills. With these skills, you’ll be able to put together an impressive record of achievements for college applications.
Serve. Tri-M highlights the school’s music program and allows you to make an impact in your community through public performances and service projects.
Unify. A Tri-M chapter brings together students across different performing arts disciplines into one supportive community. It gives band, choir, and orchestra students a structured program in which to share their love of music with each other, throughout the school, and in the larger community.
Succeed. Tri-M members can earn individual and chapter recognition and awards through hard work, leadership, musicianship, excellence, and service.
